Prism Health Networks (PHN) is committed to treating providers in a manner that respects their rights while maintaining the expectations of providers' responsibilities.

Practitioners have the right:

  • Receive information about the organization, its services, its practitioners and providers and member rights and responsibilities
  • Make recommendations regarding the organization's member rights and responsibilities policy.
  • Be treated with respect and recognition of their dignity and right to privacy
  • Voice complaints or appeals about the organization or the services it provides

Practitioners have the responsibility to:

  • Discuss health information, risks and benefits, regardless of cost or benefit coverage, with members/patients in decisions concerning their health care.
  • Keep the member/patient informed of the medical consequences of the refusal of treatment.
  • Provide the member with complete and current information concerning a diagnosis, treatment or prognosis in terms they can reasonably understand. When it is not advisable to give such information to the patient, the information shall be made available to an appropriate person on the patient’s behalf.
  • Provide the necessary information to the member/patient in order that the member/patient give informed consent prior to the start of any procedure.
  • Provide the name and qualifications of all caregivers to members/patients.
  • Accept and respond to member/patient complaints, if the member/patient feels that their practitioner or provider has not given the kind of service that they have the right to expect.
  • Accept only co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles for medically necessary services that are authorized or covered.
